General Information
Name: Princess Oya of Jupiter
Alias: Sailor Jupiter
Gender: Female
Birthday: November 22
Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius
Age: 13
Birthplace: Io Castle, Io (one of Jupiter's largest moons)
Physical Description: Oya stands at 5'7", making her tall for her age, and weighs in at around 120lbs. Her arms and legs are a little gangly-looking compared with her body, but she is solidly built and strong for her age. Her greenish-gray eyes are large and oblique, topped by slender brows and set into an oval face which also boasts a broad nose and full lips. Her skin is a rich, deep shade of kobicha brown (so says Wikipedia, so it must be a real color) that is sometimes marred by acne breakouts, especially when she's stressed. Her almost chin-length hair is a deep raspberry color and a naturally medium-curly texture. It is frequently worn either in Bantu knots or soft curls.
Her usual clothes consist of brightly colored tunic dresses, caftans or halter dresses. Pants are not worn by women in her culture, but she sometimes sneaks and wears them either alone or under her dresses, especially when engaging in sports or fighting. Often her clothes involve intricate patternsthat her mun already dreads trying to draw. Green is the color she favors the most, but she'll wear pretty much any color. She generally wears several beaded necklaces of varying lengths and arms full golden bangles that jingle whenever she moves her arms. Her ears are pierced once and she usually wears large gold hoops in them. She wants to get a nose ring but her parents thus far have not allowed it. Most often she goes barefoot, but if she must wear shoes they are always flat-soled sandals or slippers similar to ballet flats or slide shoes. She has no idea how to even walk in heels, which are not even a thing in her culture (although they are starting to be brought in as exotic imports from other worlds.)
Her princess gown is an emerald green halter dress which has what almost looks like little eyes spotted all over the fabric until the borders, which boast an intricate geometric and floral pattern. She wears her customary gold hoops and arms full of gold bangles, as well as a wrapped headdress of a similar green fabric. As much as she would like to get away with being barefoot even in that, she is often made to wear shoes of some sort, especially when meeting representatives from other worlds where going barefoot might be unacceptable.
Personality: Oya's personality is pretty androgynous in that she has traits and interests befitting the traditional roles of both males and females. On the more masculine side, she can sometimes seem insensitive and abrasive when dealing with others, especially strangers. She enjoys competition in all things and strives to be the fastest, smartest, strongest and best ever at everything. She is a very proud person who doesn't like to admit when she's wrong and has a hard time accepting failure. She enjoys sports, especially track and field, as well as training at "Lightning Fists," one of the local forms of hand-to-hand combat, which relies heavily on upper body strength and punches. On the more feminine side, she is a very emotional person who cries easily. She gets easily attached and can be clingy towards people she cares about a lot. She's also a very tidy person, can cook and sew pretty well and enjoys doing pottery and crafts. As fond as she is of fresh produce and flowers, the green thumb seems to have skipped a generation in her family. Oya couldn't even get weeds to grow, much less vegetables and flowers.
Since childhood, most of her friends have been male, which may or may not be responsible for her more masculine interests. She is very close and protective towards her friends and family, and can seem clingy at times, especially towards her parents. She's afraid something might happen to them and she will be left trying to rule a whole planet by herself. While it's true her parents and tutors have been trying to train her in the skills necessary to become a good queen someday, Oya feels like that's a position she doesn't want to be put into for many years. For now she just wants to be young and have fun while she can.
Oya enjoys modern technology, and would probably love visiting Mercury if she ever gets the chance. Jupiter's moons are capable of generating electricity via wind and/or water mills and are capable of making batteries, so they do have electric lights, some electric appliances and some electric industrial machinery, but they're nowhere near Mercury's technology level. There are no such things as robots or computers as of yet.
Thus far in her life, Oya has yet to feel she's met a true enemy. There are people who disagree with her, and sometimes a physical or verbal fight may ensue. She approaches any fight or competition like it's just a game or a sparring match, however. There is no hatred or malice within her towards anyone, at least at this point in her life. She also has yet to experience any sort of romantic love towards anyone, but with her personality, she would probably end up being the tsundere type if she were in any sort of romantic relationship.
Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Oya is becoming rather skilled at "Lightning Fists" (a local fighting style emphasizing upper body strength and punches; it's a very brash, down-and-dirty style of street fighting common among the lower classes, so her family would be mortified if they knew she did it), as well as fighting with a staff (considered a bit more dignified, but still not commonly done by women). While not the fastest runner ever, she has a lot of endurance to run for long distances. She is pretty good at cooking and sewing and excels at making pottery and doing crafts (often art out of what other people would call junk.) She doesn't know it yet as of this writing, but she is immune to electric shock.
History: Oya was born on a gray, stormy morning 13 years ago to King Adedayo and Queen Eniola in Io Castle on the moon Io, one of Jupiter's largest moons, which has a climate that is hot and frequently sunny much of the year, with a cooler, rainier season the rest of the year. The castle is made of mud bricks, just like many of the homes and other buildings on the moon. Her mother nearly died of blood loss giving birth to her at home with the help of a shaman rather than a hospital with a doctor (although hospitals and doctors do exist on Io; it was just traditional for the old shaman to deliver royal babies.) Miraculously, both mother and child survived and soon grew strong and healthy. From a young age Oya was a bit of a tomboy; she used to swipe her (year older) brother Kayin's pants to play in so she could climb trees and roughhouse like boys did. Whenever her parents caught her doing that she was scolded and given more lessons (such as cooking, sewing, etiquette and dancing, on top of the obligatory lessons on reading, writing, math and history) on how to be a proper lady. Contrary to what her parents thought, she actually did absorb and even kind of enjoy her lessons; they just didn't train the tomboy out of her as much as her parents would have hoped. Thus she learned to be a near-ideal princess... who could outrun and outfight many boys even older and larger than herself.
Growing up, she was always very close to her brother and they shared a lot of the same friends. They enjoyed running around outside, playing a game similar to soccer (which they just called football, because that's what you use to move the ball, mostly), climbing trees and roughhousing. As a child, Kayin loved the fact that his sister was almost like a brother instead, but as they got older it became more of an embarrassment to him and he began to pull away somewhat. That fact hurts her to this day, but doesn't make her love him any less. It just made her indulge her boyish side a little less, and not so much in front of her family. Fortunately she's not the age for her parents to start trying to marry her off yet, so there has been little to no pressure on her to date boys. She doesn't even know yet if she likes boys, girls, both or neither... not that she'll have much choice in the matter, anyway. It is typical in her culture for young men to compete for the parents' approval, after which the parents will decide which is the best mate for their daughter. All Oya knows is that she resents that tradition and wants no part of it.
Thus far she remains blissfully unaware of the looming possibility of war with Earth. She knows very little about the planet besides the basics of its size and motion, that it's the only planet in the system that's not yet part of the empire and that the reason for that is probably because the people and level of technology are too primitive for anyone to bother with. She's yet to visit Earth or any of the other planets on the other side of the asteroid belt. She hasn't even ever had to transform yet (and couldn't until she receives her henshin object).
Senshi Information
Senshi Name: Sailor Jupiter
Senshi Fuku: Like all the other Sol Senshi, Jupiter's fuku has a form-fitting black bodice. The solid-colored sailor collar and wraparound skirt are olive green; the skirt is longer at the back than at the front. Rather than a front bow, there is a whole band all the way around the top of the bodice, which is colored a kind of dark peach. The long back bow is the same shade as the chest band, as are the pair of wrist-length gloves worn on her hands. The wrists of the gloves are decorated with a thin band in a dark magenta just a little lighter than her hair color, to which is attached a medium-sized fabric rose of the same shade. Her shoes are likewise dark magenta, ballerina-style with flat soles and thin ankle straps to help hold them on. Her brooch is star-shaped and made of a dark magenta rubellite tourmaline gemstone. The star at the middle of her dark peach beaded tiara is made of the same stone, as are the star-shaped earrings she wears. A beaded choker made of dark peach beads with the same star as that on her tiara adorns her neck. Her hair is worn in its natural curls in this form. Although she doesn't typically wear makeup in daily life, as a senshi her eyes are enhanced with olive green shadow, lined and mascara-ed in black, while her lips are painted in dark magenta.
Henshin: She calls out, "Jupiter Power, Make Up!" Her henshin item glows and the area she's in is blanketed with thick, dark clouds. Lightning hits the ground right where she stands, seeming to burn away the clothing she was wearing, leaving her glowing nude form. As thunder crashes, she reaches up towards the sky and lightning crackles around her pirouetting body, forming the various parts of her fuku. Once she is again fully clothed, the quarterstaff appears in her hand. She twirls it above her head and then takes a battle-ready stance as lightning flashes in the background and a green, glowing Jupiter symbol appears.
Powers: Jupiter Electro Pulse - Electricity crackles around her and, using electromagnetism, she can either draw metallic objects towards herself or reverse the polarity and push them away. This generally affects pretty much anything metal in the area of effect, but if she concentrates on one particular object she can narrow the focus of the power.
High Voltage Battler - As she twirls her staff rapidly, its metal tips become electrically charged like a battery. If she continues with twirling it will form an electric shield. If she uses the charged staff to attack it will deliver a powerful shock.
Weapons or Magical Items: Her henshin object is actually the nose ring her parents won't let her have yet; they didn't feel like she was ready. Now that war is looming? We'll see. She needs to be wearing it in order to transform; just having it on her person wouldn't be enough.
Her weapon is a wooden quarterstaff with a dark finish, tipped in iron at both ends and decorated in intervals along the shaft with engraved iron bands.
RP Sample (required for all, 100 word minimum): "You're wearing my pants again, aren't you?" Kayin accused. "I've told you time and time again not to do that. Our parents have told you time and again not to do that. You know how inappropriate it is for a girl- a princess, no less!- to be seen wearing pants like a boy."
Oya scoffed. "You're going to complain how inappropriate it is for me to wear pants, when here you are storming through the castle not wearing any pants, yourself? Besides, I'm not even wearing your pants, or can you not see this is a dress?"
She screamed and nearly fell over trying to get away as her brother moved to lift her skirt. Sure she was wearing his pants, Kayin had no fear of showing any of his sister's private parts.
"You're such a pervert!" she shrieked, loudly enough that a servant passing by the door with a basket of laundry stopped and came inside.
"Is there something wrong, your highnesses?" the young woman asked, curtsying without putting down the laundry basket. "I thought I heard screaming."
"I'm being accused of having taken my brother's pants," Oya replied, folding her arms across her chest and tossing her head defiantly. "He tried to lift up my skirt to look for them, but I'll tell you what I've already told him, that I am not wearing his pants right now any more than he is, himself. I am innocent."
The servant set down the laundry basket and went through it until she finally, triumphantly, held up a couple of pairs of pants which appeared to be about Kayin's size.
The boy snatched one of the pairs away with only a mumbled thanks to the servant and pulled them on. He offered an equally mumbled apology to his sister before he left the room like a dog with his tail tucked between his legs.
The princess sighed her relief. "Thank you for that. Who knows what might have happened if you hadn't come by?"
The woman curtsied once again and humbly accepted the princess' thanks, insisting it really wasn't necessary, before leaving the room to go put the basket of clothes away.
"Really, of all the nerve," Oya said as soon as she was alone, "acting as if I have any use for his pants... as if I wasn't perfectly capable of making my own if I want to."
This particular pair was made short, hitting just below her knees, all the easier to hide under her customary long dresses. As soon as she got a chance to sneak out, she would go out and practice her hand-to-hand fighting skills in a sparring match with one of her oldest and dearest friends, Temitope. She'd been rehearsing some of the moves in her chambers or in the back gardens some mornings before the sun came up for weeks now, and she could feel herself growing stronger and faster every day. Temitope wasn't going to know what hit him.
