General Information
Name: Krutz Adalbern
Alias: The Bear of the North
Gender: Male
Birthday: November 12th
Zodiac Sign: Scorpio
Age: 37
Birthplace: the black forest
Physical Description: Standing at a height of 5'8" Krutz is built like a square. Broad shoulders set his stocky frame giving him an unsettling appearance that comes in at 220lbs. While he certainly doesn't have a body builders frame it is undeniable of his raw strength. A round broad face set with a broad nose. Intense eyes the color of the North Sea(Slate Grey) bore into your very soul. Shoulder length wavy smokey topaz brown hair with the sides shave as a sign of his servitude. He normally has his hair tied back revealing a tattoo of the North men on the left side of his head. This is a sign that he is indentured to that house. His face is weather worn from the frost bitten waters of the north. A rugged beard comes down just below his neck with streaks of blue dyed into it. Scars cover his front and back from years of battle with distinct bear claw marks running from his left shoulder across his chest down to just below his right rib.
His clothes are the basic. Plaid Earthen tone pants with grey fur boots. A olive long sleeve wool tunic. For his own purposes he normally wears a cape made from a black bear that can cover his entire body when spread out. While the head and hind paws have been removed the front paws serve as the clasps of the cape. This is the attire of his people.
Personality: Life is hard. Especially if you're a tribal in an Iron Age setting. It's even harder if you're one of these tribals under the reign of a feudal system. All of Krutz's life is combat and struggle. He reflects this with a very stern and serious demeanor. In his everyday life he is cold and unremorseful keeping all emotion in check. Such is a warriors life. He lives for combat for only in battle can you truly release who you are and embrace his true anger. Rage fuels his combat unbridled and unchecked. Powered by memories of lost home, people, and purpose. But to die in battle is to enter the next world a god. So with the rage comes a drunken euphoria. There are times however when Krutz is alone and sitting at the back corner of a tavern, he can be seen melancholy staring into his flaggon and slightly smiling.
When he is around other's Krutz remains stoic and only speaking if absolutely necessary. This gives him the continued intimidating presence that he has worked to prefect. Always watching and always ready for the next war. Only one person has ever seen him any other way. When he is in a private setting with prince Zoisite he takes on a different persona. That of a teacher with an almost paternal attitude. Quick to guide the young prince on the right path and quick to criticize but only when it's just the two of them. Though he has no love for the North men he has grown to accept his responsibility of seeing the young prince become a king.
Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Due to his early Germanic roots and the training of the North Men Krutz has been trained and effective in many forms of combat (Swords, throwing axes, spears). His early p bringing taught him hunting and tracking from his father. The North Men also taught him to sail the most treacherous of waters and how to fish the seas and rivers. In order to be a raider you must be able to swim the frost bitten waters of the North and survive off even the most frost bitten of lands. even still there are times when you must strike a foe from a distance therefore he trained in the longbow.
History: The world is dark and savage. For a glorious few we are born into paradise but, for most we are born in dark and unforgiving places. Krutz was born in such a place. The black Forest of Germania is unforgiving for while it is filled with an endless bounty it is also filled with terrors. Germanic tribe Krutz was born to was proud and mighty. Smart enough to survive in the forest and tough enough to fend off any neighboring tribes. Krutz was born in the early winter. His mother was a gatherer and clothes maker. as are the majority of the women of the tribe, and his father was a warrior and hunter. Life was hard and simple but still one of joy and tradition. Krutz's childhood was relatively peaceful he learned the ways of his people and was well on his way to become quite the hunter and fisherman. When he turned eight his father taught him in the ways of the sword. This was the start of his fate into the monster he would become. As the years progressed and Krutz grew war came to his people. There had been rumors of a kingdom of warriors conquering their way through the lands in order to claim the land as their own. The council decided to fight the North Men and all neighboring tribes joined together into a coalition to drive back the invaders.
They came in the morning mist and moved with such ferocity that the tribes never stood a chance. The tribes of Germania were slaughtered and the remainders were either sold into slavery or killed. Krutz watched as his mother was raped and then systematically murdered. His father and the remaining warriors were lashed together and burned alive. This was an offering to the North gods. Krutz and a small handful of children were loaded into a cart and sent away never to see their homeland again. After a long journey the children arrived in the capital city of the North Men. They were immediately separated into three groups. Women, girls and the best looking boys, and the rest of the boys. Krutz was in the last group as his captors herded them towards a massive long house. Once inside the boys were separated into groups of two and taken outside to a rustic amphitheater. On the dirt floor each boy faced his partner as a North man tossed a short sword inbetween them and said, "Do it!" Krutz immediately looked to his his opponent and saw the fear and confusion in his eyes. He took advantage kicking the dirt into his opponent's face. The young boy screamed as Krutz rushed rushed forward and used the weapon for it's intended purpose. As Krutz stood over his victim he heard a thunderous roar of approval from the North Men. One approached and said, "I'll take this one. He will make a fine warrior."
Krutz spent the next five years learning all the ways of the North Men. How to sail and fight with sword, spear, and axe. They taught him to raid and how to worship their gods. They trained him, armed him, and tested him. Soon enough they created a child soldier dedicated to fighting for the North. He only had one final test to officially become a raider. Krutz had to face an animal in the arena. The day came and Krutz faced a black bear. In order to prove his worth he chose to fight the bear using only a spear and no armor. The battle lasted for an hour and was witnessed by the high king himself. Finally Krutz emerged victorious though not without his own wounds, hence the scars. The king came down and looked the young warrior up and down. He chuckled and proclaimed, "This is a North Man! He will be a raider unlike any other. For the glory of our kingdom. Take the hide of this bear and make a cloak so that all may know of Krutz's courage. Now young raider feast upon the bear flesh and gain his strength." Krutz feasted upon the bear and joined the ranks of the North Men.
Such was his life. He raided and warred for the glory of the North. He grew to love battle for such was the way to honor the gods. With each battle he grew more and more ferocious. His legend grew with each raid. All began to know him as the Bear of the North. A blood lust in him grew and he reveled in his life. However, as all things do, change came. The king grew sick and died. Leaving the young prince Zoisite as the rightful heir. There had been rumors about the prince and there were many concerns about his ability and demeanor to rule. Therefore a new order came to Krutz. He was to guard the crown-prince and guide into becoming the king the North expected him to be. Krutz was infuriated by this. There was no honor or glory to the gods for being a wet nurse. Though he could not disobey he would not take this order willingly.
The first few months went exactly as expected. Krutz growing ever more frustrated with a prince who constantly lacked interest and ferocity in his sword training. He cursed each day he was with the boy and aptly took to calling the prince just that, boy. One night there was a dance and feast in the great hall to which Krutz found excessively tasking. WHile he pryed to the gods for a fight to breakout he started to notice something about the prince. It was the way he looked at the women he danced with and even how he danced with him. It felt as if the all-father himself struck him with lighting as he suddenly began to understand the young boy he had been charged with. Zoisite's father had once honored him as a boy and for that he decided he would not abandon the prince. He would dedicate his life to helping the young prince become a man. From then on their relationship changed though Krutz was still serious and gruff he still had a renewed interest and steady hand in guiding Zoisite. Which has been his continued mission to this very day.

The tavern was lively as mead flowed from flaggon to flaggon. The patrons drank and celebrated life and company of each other. Rambunctious drunkards mouth about their wars and the scars were displayed with pride and glory. Finally one such man shouted at the top of his lungs, "You're he biggest dandy I've ever met. Maybe you and Princess Zoisite would like to have matching dresses." Immediately the crowd became silent and music stopped and the drunk began to laugh as all eyes looked towards Krutz moving towards the drunk. Krutz stopped just behind the man and tapped him on the shoulder saying, "Oi!"
The drunk turned and looked into the cold eyes and continued to giggle, "Oi yourself. What do you need old man?" Krutz remaining fixed on the drunk replied, "Take back your words about the prince." The drunk stiffened his laughter and replied a bit more agitated as the room held their breath. "What? You don't like what I said about the princess? Beat it wet nurse before you make me angry." Krutz remained fixed on the drunk's eyes sternly saying, "This is your last chance. Take back your words." The drunk mockingly laughed and puffed up as he responded, "You're wasting your time old man. Unlike everyone else in here I know the bear no longer has any teeth. You are nothing and you certainly don't have any power to change my words. The gods favor the young so we drink to honor them tonight and all true warriors. In other words walk away before I end you." The last sentence erupted as a burp directly in Krutz's face. The crowd immediately scooted away giving the men space.
Krutz let out a dry laugh and said, "The gods? If you truly knew anything about the gods boy you'd know they are not pleased by drink. There is only one thing our gods favor. It seems you need to be reminded how to please them." With one fluid motion Krutz produced a knife out of his sleeve and slashed at the drunk. The drunk screamed as he clutched his left eye and crumpled to the ground. All the patrons stood in silence as the bear wiped his blade on the drunk's tunic and said, "Now the all-father is pleased. I have no doubt he will bless you in your coming battle." Krutz headed to the bar and picked up his flaggon raising a toast and life restored to the tavern. The all-father was pleased and no one in the tavern would insult the prince again.
