General Information
Name: Zoisite
Alias: Zoi
Gender: Male
Birthday: March 28
Zodiac Sign: Aries
Age: 17
Birthplace: Northern Europe
Physical Description (include clothing generally worn): Zoisite is fairly short, only about 5'7", and has a slender frame and willowy build, only weighing in at around 120 lbs. His light peach skin is largely unblemished despite his age, with only the occasional minor breakout if he's too stressed. His face is heart-shaped, wide through the forehead and cheeks but with a small, pointed chin. His narrow, slightly oblique eyes are a rich grassy green beneath slender eyebrows, his nose is sharp and his mouth is small but blessed with a pretty rosebud lip pattern. His ears are pierced once, and he usually wears a pair of emerald stud earrings. He keeps his thick waves and curls of dirty blond hair at around waist length and usually in a low ponytail. He parts it in the middle and wears eyebrow-length bangs at the front. He's quite fond of his hair, so it's always kept clean, tangle-free and in the best possible condition.
His uniform is as green as his eyes and consists of a tunic jacket with a mandarin collar and gold trim, buttons and fancy shoulder epaulets. There are green strip things placed horizontally down the front of the jacket that fasten with buttons. (Mun has no idea what those are called.) The jacket is belted at the waist, and from the right side of the belt hangs a sheathed sword (since he is left-handed.) A pair of green pants with a gold stripe down each side is tucked into a pair of tall black leather boots with a 2" heel to help him look just a little taller. He prefers the elegance of white gloves, even if black ones might suit the color scheme better. He also carries a set of three throwing knives as a secondary or backup weapon.
Not that he gets to wear civilian clothes much, but when he does they're soft and feminine like his appearance. He's fond of ruffled shirts and waistcoats in rich fabrics like velvet, silk, satin and brocade. Zoi feels he looks best in jewel tones, so when he's not in uniform that's what he wears the most. And for someone who doesn't get to wear civilian clothes, he has an unusually large wardrobe, as well as several pairs of shoes. He makes many of his own clothes, and enjoys going to the bazaar to look for new fabrics, especially those exotic ones imported from the east. He actually wishes he could wear ladies' clothes sometimes, especially the fancy dresses worn to balls, but knows that's considered inappropriate for someone of his station.
Personality: Zoisite is the youngest and most immature of the Shitennou. He can be an irritating and antagonistic person not only towards his enemies, but his fellow Shitennou as well, or at least Jadeite and Nephrite, whom he views somewhat like rivals. He tends to be on his best behavior around Kunzite, whom he both looks up to and has a not-so-secret crush on. Zoi usually doesn't care what others think of him, but he finds he cares very much about what Kunzite thinks, and always hopes to please and impress him. He knows how to act in social situations, with elegant royal manners having been drilled into him from an early age. Most people would probably describe him as very charming and well-mannered, at least until they get to know him a little better and realize how much of a troll he can be sometimes.
His appearance, language and mannerisms are effeminate, although he does have a bit of a potty mouth when he gets angry or upset, which he does fairly easily, possibly due to his youthful hormones knocking his emotions all out of whack. He would make a very convincing drag queen, if he chose to do so. This all may lead to his sometimes being mistaken for a woman, which honestly doesn't bother him in the least. If placed into a situation where it would be advantageous for him to do so, he may even choose to encourage it.
Zoisite's main interests are keeping up with both men's and women's current fashion (especially elegant evening wear), music and the fine arts, and his tastes in all are very eclectic. Right now he's in a romantic phase, so he's fond of ruffles, fabrics of rich velvet and brocade and various types of orchestral and chamber music, similar to what we would call Baroque and Classical. He would rather teleport from place to place than walk, if given the choice, and likes to appear and vanish in a flurry of pink sakura petals.
Zoi tends to overestimate his own intelligence and abilities. He thinks he's smarter and better than pretty much anyone, and aside from Kunzite, it's rare he'll ever let anyone correct him or try to teach him anything. And while he is intelligent and a good strategist, there are certainly those more talented in those areas. His notoriously short attention span certainly doesn't help matters much. If he could just make himself knuckle down and study more he might even live up to his own hype.
Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Zoi has the ability to teleport himself (along with small items he may be holding or touching, or even a person if they were fairly small) across long distances. He prefers to make his appearances and disappearances in a swirl of pink sakura petals. While he can teleport himself to pretty much any part of the planet Earth, if he wishes, his accuracy decreases a bit with distance. Also, taking a long trip or more than 2 or 3 shorter trips per thread would leave him pretty tired. For those reasons, he likes to keep his trips as short as possible and to give himself a chance to recover those days he's teleporting around a lot.
He's well-trained as a swordsman, including rapiers, sabers and broadswords, and has dead-on aim with thrown objects such as his knives and darts (the latter of which he sometimes hustles people at in pubs). He is also trained in archery, mostly just on the longbow, and more for demonstration purposes than actual fighting (although he could use the skill for that, too, in a pinch.) Thus far he hasn't had much reason to use his archery skills outside of contests and archery demonstrations.
Having taken piano lessons from a young age, he's gotten quite good at playing, although he's never played in concert or in front of any large number of people. He prefers to play elegant music like that heard at fancy balls, and can learn to play new compositions by ear if they're not too complicated. He also enjoys singing, but has never had any formal training in that and fears he may not be very good. He can often be heard singing or humming a tune while busy doing some kind of work with his hands.
Drawing energy from his namesake stone, he has the ability to manipulate temperature by exciting or slowing atoms in the air or inside matter (which comes in handy in the oppressive heat of summer, which being a northerner, he doesn't deal with well.) Usually he doesn't use it for any great change in temperature because the greater the temperature change, the more it takes out of him, but in a fight (or in a pinch, if needed in some more domestic situation) he could use:
* Combustion Inducement: The ability to cause matter to burst into flame. The item to be combusted must be within 30 feet of him for the effect of speeding up the molecules to be great enough to cause combustion. Note that Zoi is not fireproof, so igniting things while holding them is generally not a good idea, unless it's like a torch or something.
* Flash Freezing: The ability to cause matter to grow very cold or freeze solid. The item to be frozen must be within 30 feet for the effect of slowing down the molecules to be great enough to cause freezing. While being from the north makes him more resistant to cold, Zoi is not immune to frostbite and needs to wear warm, protective clothes for prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures, just like anyone else.
History: Zoisite was born in the Northern Kingdom, in the area we now call Scandinavia. He was the first born, and a coddled only child who had his mother wrapped around his little finger for the first five years of his life, until his parents finally managed to carry another baby, a girl they called Opal, to term. Unfortunately, she would also be the last baby born to the royal family; the queen died in childbirth bringing Opal into the world. Zoi has still never forgiven his little sister for "killing" their mother, even though intellectually he knows she was just a baby who didn't do anything wrong. While the king never married again, he often sought comfort in the arms of other women. The children, of course, were kept blissfully unaware of his activities.
Zoi never really got to live a normal childhood, because almost from birth he was busy being groomed to become the next King of the North. He was taught math, strategy, literature, writing, history, geography, how to fight (including hand to hand, with a sword and a bow and arrow) and such important subjects as ballroom dancing and proper court manners. He wasn't unhappy because that was all he had ever known. He was barely even aware of what life was like outside the palace, and what he did know was learned from his tutoring, so that was hardly from a neutral point of view.
All the more reason to keep him secluded from the general population for the most part- Zoisite, like the others of the Shitennou, had been found from a very young age to have magical abilities. Zoi's had to do with controlling temperature in the air and in objects. Learning to control and use those powers for good was hard, since there were so few people around who had experience with magic to teach it. There was a lot of trial and error and things coming out accidentally burned or frozen before he learned to use the powers properly.
Zoi was fourteen when his father died of "bad blood" (an old-fashioned name for syphilis) and he finally found out what his father has been up to all those years. Just as he hasn't fully forgiven his sister for causing his mother's death, Zoi is still bitter about his father's secret lifestyle, which he feels was disrespectful to the memory of his mother.
With his father's death, the youngster became "King Zoisite of the Northern Kingdom," but due to his age a regent ruled on his behalf until he was sixteen, which was the age of majority in his kingdom. And of course, no sooner had he ascended to the throne than others started trying to find him a suitable bride. It seemed as though the parade of princesses and noblewomen would never end. He does enjoy being at the balls- getting to both dress up, himself, and admire the beautiful fashions worn by others. So far he's never met anyone who especially impressed him out of the many young women he's been introduced to. Some rumors have lately come out that the young king may not be interested in women at all.
When the Lunarian queen came to Earth and demanded the sacred golden crystal, word had been sent out to the other kingdoms to send their kings and armies to help in defending it. It's Zoi's first time ever seeing the Golden Kingdom, since he had never been allowed to make the journey with his father before, and he is understandably excited/nervous about the experience.
RP Sample (required for all, 100 word minimum): Zoisite didn't need any more clothes, as he kept trying to remind himself. The door to his wardrobe barely even shut now, as full as it was! Yet as he examined the bolts of exotic far eastern silk on display in the bazaar, he couldn't help thinking he could make the most beautiful shirt out of it. It would be made in poet style, he thought, with voluminous sleeves and ruffles along the front, and it would be white... no, green, like his eyes. Or maybe a muted shade of saffron yellow? There were so many choices!
No, wait, he was supposed to be convincing himself not to buy the fabric.
"How much is this?" he heard himself asking in the local tongue. For once, he was glad he had been made to take those language lessons growing up. Even though he spoke it with an obvious Northern accent, at least he was able to communicate.
"That's going to be 10 a yard," the woman said, "because it's imported from the Eastern Kingdom."
That was pretty high, Zoi thought. Not that he couldn't afford it, but he could just teleport over to the Eastern Kingdom and buy some right from the source if he wanted! Only he couldn't speak the language they did over there (the only foreign language he had been required to learn growing up had been that of the Golden Kingdom)... and he didn't like to teleport that far if he had any choice in the matter.
"I'll take three and a half of this green," he said, reaching for his bag to get the money out.
He would hate himself for giving in so easily later, but he would at least do so in a beautiful new green silk shirt.
