Out of all the ways Crystal Tokyo was superior to Argenia, and there were so very many, Kanbei’s favorite might have been that there was always a party going. Even on a Tuesday night, the Yoru-Dori had a big line to get in. One way it was similar to Argenia, though, is that fame, or even infamy, meant you never had to wait in line. This was made especially easy if you had two large bodyguards flanking you, which Kanbei happened to have. This was one thing he would have rather done without, but the Global Fight League Commissioner, Asuka Fukuyama, had absolutely insisted that her cash cow be accompanied by armed escort when he was in public. With all the hubbub over Argenians, and Kanbei being one of the more publicly violent of them, the risk of someone pulling a gun or a knife if a fight broke out was too high for her liking. Kanbei wasn’t happy about it, but Fukuyama was a hard woman to deny when she wanted to be. A glance at the line as Kanbei and his two escorts walked past would support the businesswoman’s decision. More people were left glaring than star-struck.

“Yo,” he said with a small wave as he walked up to the bouncer. “Haven’t seen you here before. Where’s Koji?”

“Sick. I’m filling in,” the bouncer replied, giving Kanbei the look over.

If he wasn’t a recognizable face, Kanbei wouldn’t have stood out. He was wearing ark dress jeans and button down club shirt with the top buttons undone. It was the bare minimum to get into a club like the Yoru-Dori.

The bouncer continued, hesitant. “Look, I can let you in but…”

“Yeah, yeah, someone wants to get in my face, you and your boys won’t get involved,” Kanbei interjected, making a “move it along” gesture with his hand. “I’m a champion. I can handle it, and my boss has these guys following me just in case.”

The bouncer nodded and stepped aside, allowing Kanbei and his bodyguards into the bar. It was understandable. The club could pass of letting him in for a number of reasons, but they couldn’t be caught defending an Argenian from someone. Too risky. Once inside, Kanbei headed for the bar.

“Give me some space, huh?” he gestured to the guards. “The usual thing.”

Silently, the men abided, moving to opposite sides of the room as Kanbei continued towards the bar. As long as he was in their site, they didn’t need to stick to him so close, and no fun would be had if they stuck to him like glue. Once he reached the bar, Kanbei ordered a drink and leaned back against the bar as he waited, surveying the floor. What kind of fun would it be sending his way tonight?

Dev and his a few of his men quickly crossed the street to the Yoru-Dori. Dev had remembered that the owner of the establishment had expressed some disdain with the monarchy. So since Dev had been released he figured that a visit might be in order. He completely ignored the line as he headed for the front door until of course he was barred by a refrigerator shaped gentleman who raised his hand in the universal sign of "You're not getting in here with those shoes." Dev glanced down at his hand then back up to him and said, "You know who I am?" It was cliche sure but it seemed like the right thing to say at the time. The bouncer rolled his eyes, let out a frustrated sigh, and replied, "How hell am I supposed to know some wanna be like you?" Dev's men started to move but held fast with a motion from Dev. Dev smiled that chesire cat grin and gave the man a Presbyterian hand shake, lined with a 10,000 yen bill, saying, "My apologies. My name is Michael de Velara. I'm an old friend of the owner of the establishment." The bouncer cocked an eyebrow and quickly put his hand into his pocket and replied, "My apologies Mr. de Velara. You and your friends are always welcome here." With a quick smile and a pat on his shoulder Dev entered to more then a few yells from the waiting line.

The place was pretty much like any trendy dance joint. Loud music, scantly clad women, and yuppies hoping to get drunk and lucky. Dev shook his head at the sight and slowly headed towards the bar. Just before they reached it one of his men said, "Hey isn't that the heavyweight champ, Kanbei Sato, at the bar?" Dev looked over to where he was looking and sure enough there he was. He leaned over to one of the men and said, "Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he was also one of the Argenians that killed a senshi right?" He just nodded in reply. "You guys hang back and keep an eye out." With that Dev made his way up to the bar, a few feet away from Kanbei, and motioned for the bar tender. "Tell the owner that Michael de Velara has come to see him."

It had been a while, but Kanbei had worked in the underground for a long time before coming to earth. He could recognize a posse when he saw one, and the Europeans that entered the bar a little while after him were certainly one of those. He glanced at his two bodyguards. They’d noticed them too, from their respective corners of the establishment.

As the group spread out, one made his way towards the bar, and on his approach, he recognized him. Some jackass from TV, talking up a storm after being released from prison. It had been all over the news. He was some kind of crazy terrorist or something, according to Asuka. Kanbei had been instructed to avoid confrontation with him if they met. Screw that. Kanbei had found his fun for the night.

The man approached the bar, near Kanbei, "Tell the owner that Michael de Velara has come to see him."

“Hey, I know you,” Kanbei said, motioning towards the man with his drink. “I saw you on TV. You’re the lover of justice, right?”

Kanbei smirked and downed the rest of his drink, setting the empty glass on the bar. He couldn’t help himself. The situation was just too perfect. He knew this de Velara’s type, the kind that would say all these noble things and act all high and mighty, up until they had to actually follow those words through. This was going to be good.

“So, Mikey, do you walk like you talk?” he asked with a cocky grin.

Dev glanced over to his side as the Argenian started the conversation. He definitely had to be careful to play this out right. He looked the Argenian up and down. He was actually a little taller then this man. Doesn't really mean a thing though. Even without his powers Kanbei was still a dangerous man but the playing field had been leveled.

"Yes that's right. But the name's Dev. And you must be the Argenian bastard that killed Lady Venus and Artemis and got off Scot free. Seems to me you are in line for judgment."

Dev quickly picked up a shot from the bar and downed it. The sounds of the bar and the patrons quickly began to drown out and his attention focused entirely onto Kanbei. He turned to him and took a step towards him. He sized him up and said, "Absolutely. I'll do whatever it takes to make sure murder's like you are locked up and awaiting a short drop with a quick stop. So, Yeah. I can walk the walk."

Kanbei’s eye glinted with delight as the man replied. While Kanbei didn’t expect the man to have the balls to actually back up his words (and he still didn’t think he would), that was just fine if he ended up having them after all. Whether it was with his fists or his mouth, teaching this mouthy little punk a lesson was going to be bundles of fun.

“Well then, Mikey, congratulations. Today’s you’re lucky day,” he said, stepping back and spreading his arms invitingly. “You want justice, go ahead, come on and take it. Right here, right now.”

Kanbei chuckled, having to restrain himself from outright laughter. This was always the funny part.

“I’ll give you a fair fight. No weapons, no tricks,” he explained, then motioned towards the man’s posse with his head. “Your boys stay out of it, and so do mine. We just go at it, man to man, right here. For – heh – justice.”

See, this was what Kanbei liked to see as a true trust of someone’s ideals. Sure, you could talk about justice all you wanted, but what did you do when you had nothing but pain waiting for you for standing up for them? Kanbei may not have had his powers anymore, but athletically speaking, he was in better shape than when he arrived. They didn’t have gyms, personal trainers or supplements on Argenia. Through Earth’s advanced medical knowledge and training methods, this past year had made him stronger, faster and more agile than ever before. Oh, and he was the GFL Welterweight Champion, too. In other words, any sane man would realize that picking a fair fight with him would mean a severe ass-kicking. That left guys like Michael de Valera with a choice: stand for your ideal and get the ever loving shit kicked out of you with 100% certainty, or show your true colors and abandon your ideals in favor of not getting beaten to a bloody paste. Not that he risked pubic embarrassment. No one would ever know if he just walked away. No one but him.

“So, what’s it gonna be, Mikey? Walk or talk?”

Dev glared at the arrogant Argenian with such contempt. If he wanted a fight he was certainly going to get one. Dev slowly took off his jacket and handed it to one of his boys. He cracked his neck to the side and stood toe to toe with the Argenian braggart. He slowly sized him up with a slow glance and replied.

"All right darlin'. Let's dance."

Dev's left hand quickly shot forward and attempted to latch on to Kanbei's right wrist. At the same time he pulled a plastic zip tie out of his pocket with his right and went to lash it around both of their wrists. Now in theory this seemed like a good idea. To steal a phrase, In theory communism works. There was only one true fact in this entire aspect. The simple truth was that this was really going to hurt.

As de Valera removed his jacket, Kanbei cracked his neck and raised his fits in a standard fighting stance. As it happened, Kanbei was right handed, and this meant he led with his left hand (to jab and guard) while keeping his right hand further back. This was unfortunate for Dev, because that meant he had to move closer to Kanbei to grab his right hand, and as far as Kanbei could tell, the man’s superior reach seemed to be his biggest advantage.

So, Kanbei let him. When the man grabbed a hold of his right wrist, Kanbei twisted his hand around and attempted to return the favor. This meant that the zip tie became wrapped around his right wrist as well, but Kanbei didn’t care. Instead, he tugged backward swith his right hand. If he had managed to get a hold of de Valera’s own wrist, hopefully that would result in de Valera being pulled forward and off balance.

As he was doing this, his left hand quickly slapped away de Valera’s left hand with a short chopping motion, avoiding getting it caught in the zip line, and then darted forward. At first, it seemed like a jab, but in the end the fist actually missed de Valera’s head entirely before reaching back in attempt to grab de Valera by the hair. Kanbei then reared back his head, and launched in forward in a vicious head-butt aimed at de Valera’s face.

Now there are a few that need to be said before we continue. First of all Dev was certainly no slouch when it came to physical fitness. He had always had a passion for cross country running and worked out daily. So he was definitely in better shape then most in this "magical utopia". Second when it comes to firearms Dev is most certainly top notch. Third in tactics Dev lead the field, at least in his own mind, in innovation. That being said, when it came to matters of pugilism and I can't help stress this point. Dev couldn't fight worth shit.

Dev realized his folly as he felt a hand grab a hand full of his hair and unfortunately before he could respond he cleverly blocked Kanbei's head with his nose. His vision suddenly went white with pain and Dev slumped to his knees. His eyes filled with tears as he blinked rapidly trying to restore his vision and he cursed slightly as the pain from his nose started to be mixed with gushing blood. There is however one other fact about Dev that I forgot to mention. Dev is a really sore loser. Dev stared up defiantly at the cocky Argenian and thrust his head with all of his might at Kanbei's groin.

A successful head-butt was an interesting sensation. It was at once pain and satisfaction. The impact hurt a little, but no matter how much it did, you knew the other guy was feeling a hell of a lot worse. It was the kind of thing that really got Kanbei amped.

“Woo!” Kanbei called out, taking a step back and shaking the stars out of his eyes. “How’s it feel, Mikey?”

There was no verbal response, but de Valera was struggling up from his knees. Kanbei smirked, even as blood trickled down from his forehead. Head-butts really messed people up, could screw up their thought process. That might have been the case with de Valera, because for some reason he saw his best course of action as thrusting his head towards Kanbei’s groin. De Valera would not find his target waiting for him, though, as Kanbei simply struck out with his right knee, intending to intercept de Valera’s face mid strike.

“How’s it feel, Mikey?!”

Flashes of light exploded into Dev's vision as his face yet again collided with a surface harder then expected. He collapsed onto his bank as the pain surged and his ears rang. Finally after a few seconds the ring slowly formed into "How's it feel, Mikey?" His bearing were shot as he shook his head frantically trying shake of the confusion. His bearings finally returned to him as he stared up at the gloating Argenian but those flashing lights. A smile spread across Dev's face as a realization struck him. He awkwardly sat himself back up to his knees and glanced around the room. As it turned out those flashing lights were actually cameras of the people in the club and more then likely some paparazzi trying to see the latest starlet making a fool of herself.

He looked back up to Kanbei, the blood from his nose pouring down his face, and said, "Looks like you lose and it feels great Boy-o." Dev's face scrunched in defiance as he spat a massive mixture of his blood and spit right at Kanbei's face.

Kanbei didn’t even try to avoid the spit, letting it hit him on his left cheek, right under his dead eye. A move like that might as well be a white flag. What a joke. An attempt to handcuff him, a poorly planned and desperate headbutt, and spit? This guy wasn’t even trying. He knew he was going to get his ass from the start. Why would he even bother? The answer came in the form of flashes from the gathering crowd, and the unjustified look of triumph on the man’s face. Wiping off the spit with his hand, Kanbei turned to look at the flashing cameras, looked at his hand, and burst out laughing.

“What an idiot!” he declared, still laughing. “You actually think I give a shit, don’t ya?”

For another few moments he continued to laugh at the man. This was de Valera’s idea of a loss? That some cameras caught him beating the shit out of some self righteous moron? This guy knew who Kanbei was, and thought he cared about something like that?

“Yo,” he called to the cameras, smiling and pointing a thumb at his own chest. “I’m Kanbei Sato. I’m an Argenian and a killer. I’m the reason Bloody Sunday was bloody. If anyone wants my blood, if anyone wants revenge, then I’ll take ‘em all, fair and square. Any time, any place.” He turned back to Dev, still grinning. “See? I aint gonna run from who I am or what I’ve done, and I don’t care if the world knows about it. I’ll face my future like a man ought to.”

The crowd had grown even larger by now, and Kanbei knew it was only a matter of time before the bouncers would ask him to leave. He hadn’t thrown the first punch, but they’d made it clear they weren’t going to protect him equally. He understood that, and was fine with it. That was the consequence of what he’d done.

“But you,” he said, pointing a finger at de Valera. “I see right through you, Mikey. Two shots and you give up? You weren’t trying to beat me. You were just puttin’ on a show. You’re so scared of people seeing who you really are, that you’d rather get the shit beat outta ya than admit it.”

Kanbei chuckled to himself and turned on his heel to leave. There wasn’t any more fun to be had here. His bodyguards quickly emerged from the crowd and took up positions around him, one right behind, between him and de Valera, and one between him and the crowd. Kanbei wasn’t paying attention, but he knew both were fingering concealed weapons. In the back of the club, a few club goers discreetly made their way to various exits – Asuka’s planted watchdogs. She always had more people watching Kanbei’s back than he realized. Oblivious to this, Kanbei exited the Yoru-Dori, wondering where he should head next.

[Exit Kanbei]
